Add a little life to your home by bringing in the maximalism of art deco interior design. This is a great way to spice up your house and add luxury and glamor to small spaces.
What is art deco?
Art deco is an interior design style that incorporates maximalism, deep colors, bold geometric shapes, and in-depth detail that is unmatched. All of these things combined, art deco interior design encourages a unique home interior so that no two homes are exactly the same.
Art deco interior design is much more than just selecting pieces of decor. This is a game-changing style upgrade from wall-to-wall. There is nothing neutral about art deco, which is what makes it so much different than that of its earth toned counterpart trends. Think about the 1920s in America and Paris — this is the style that art deco interior encompasses.
How to add art deco to your home
There are so many directions that you can take home decor when thinking about art deco. Art deco is all about expressing yourself through the decor in your home, so this is an opportunity to go crazy and show your visitors who you really are.
Include a variety of shapes
Selecting a variety of shapes when you are picking out art, furniture, and other decor is the first step to an art deco interior design style. Whether that means choosing a mirror that is triangular for your hallway, or an oddly shaped lamp for your living room — these are all small changes that you can make that will alter the dynamic of your home.

Play around with patterns
Mixing patterns that may otherwise seem as though they would clash can be a great addition to an art deco home. In this case, patterns that look like they would not match are the ones that you want to try together. An easy way to incorporate this would be if you already have a pattern on the walls or floor of your kitchen or bathroom, so think about shopping for different patterned hand towels. This is just one example of the way you can play up the patterns around your home.

Choose your colors wisely
One big indicator of art deco decor is dark colors as accents as well as whole walls. Painting a doorway black or your walls emerald green can be a great addition to an art filled room, and add a lot of character. This also creates an element of mystery to the home, and in turn will leave you seeming mysterious to your guests, as well.
Adding dark colors to your walls and accents will also make the rest of your interior pop out, even if it is not bright colors. This is a great way to mix and match colors and experiment with your creative side. Bright colors are also a great addition to an art deco home, as they complement the dark colors well.

Add some art — like a lot of it
Now this may come as a no-brainer in an art deco style home, but you want to go crazy with the art. It does not need to match when it comes to color schemes or patterns, but what is important is that each piece of art you choose matches the vibe you are going for inside of your home. If you are going for dark and mysterious, take that route. If you are going for bright and bubbly, follow your heart! Art is all about the emotions you feel when you are looking at it, so really lean into that when you are selecting your pieces for your home.
You can never have too much art with an art deco style interior. If you would prefer to line your walls with art instead of wallpaper or paint, that would be totally appropriate with this interior design style. This is your chance to be creative and show off your wild side.

Dabble with antiques
A great way to incorporate more of this 1920s feel interior style is to go searching for some antique furnishings. Whether that is an antique chair that you find at an estate sale, an old lamp that you found at a thrift store, or something you randomly found on Facebook Marketplace, it can be a great old addition to a modernized home. Antiques add character in a way that no other piece of furniture or decor can, because it is preloved and you are giving it a new life to live. There are many great finds out there, you just have to dig for them. Remember, for this style, you are shooting for the 20s and 30s eras, so you are going to have to find some old relics to get into the spirit.
